sakura-translations was set up in Pfinztal in 2017. The region around Karlsruhe has significant Japanese and Asian industrial investment, and there was a clear gap between what general translation agencies offered and what businesses actually needed when working with Japanese counterparts in manufacturing, technology and trade.
The name comes from the Japanese word for cherry blossom. There is a precision to sakura that we try to bring to translation work: each element matters, and the relationship between elements matters even more. Getting the words right is the baseline. Getting the cultural register, the implied meaning and the appropriate level of formality right is the actual job.
Our translators hold academic or professional qualifications in their working languages, and most have domain expertise that matches the content they work on. For technical content, we assign translators with engineering backgrounds. For legal content, translators with legal training. The subject matter is never secondary to the language pair.
